The speed of computers and the internet has improved immensely over the years. New research in England is showing that computers will soon be able to transfer information at the speed of light to keep up with the speed of the internet. Dr Richard Curry, who works at the University of Surrey’s Advanced Technology Institute, is the project lead for this new research. Curry told the Huffington Post, “The aim would be to send data around the computer using light.” The speed of a computer effects the speed of the internet, which already moves at a speed that is close to the speed of light. When the computer can’t work that fast, the information has to slow down when it reaches the computer.
